New funding has contributed towards a continued learning by children on how to live healthy and safe lives.

Life Education Wessex provides health, wellbeing and drugs education to young people in Dorset, Devon, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Somerset.

The independent charity spent two days at St Michael's Primary School in Lyme Regis with its mobile classroom.

The organisation was set up to provide children aged three to 13 with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence to make healthy choices and avoid risky behaviour.

At a recent session on 'friends' town councillors Richard Doney and Sean Larcombe joined the year 5 pupils, and presented Life Education Wessex with a cheque for £325.

The money will help to contribute with the cost of bringing the Life Bus to the school for its annual visit.

Life Education Wessex's operations and fundraising administrator, Lynn Clements, said: "We believe that all children deserve to lead safe and healthy lives.

"By placing preventative education at the core of our work, we aim to instil in children the confidence to make safer and healthier choices now and in the future. "The schools we visit contribute to approximately half of the cost of their visits, so we are reliant on local sources to provide the additional funding.

"We would like to thank Lyme Regis Town Council for their continued support which enables us to deliver important messages to local children in a fun, interactive and memorable way."

The sessions in the bus are tailored to each age group, with themes including the human body, feelings and decision-making.

Speaking about why the council donated, cllr Richard Doney said: "It's about helping young people grow up and feeling confident to be able to face the challenges of modern life.

"Having sat in on a session, I can appreciate the value of this programme, which was demonstrated by the reactions of the children attending."

Cllr Sean Larcombe, who is a parent of two pupils at St Michael's Primary School, said he enjoyed the session.

Cllr Larcombe said: "It was very enlightening.

"All the children took part and shared their thoughts and ideas."
