Members of two Women's Institute groups joined forces to do their part at a beach clean.

Chideock WI, together with Cattistock WI, supported the beach clean held at Seatown beach.

The beach clean was one of the events organised by the Dorset Federation in partnership with Surfers Against Sewage.

Members attended as part of the WI campaign Plastic Soup, which is designed to raise awareness of the damage caused by plastic in the oceans and on beaches.

The clean-up crew whilst on the beach found plastic bottle lids, plastic string and rope, plastic netting and plastic cable ties.

The WI campaign also advises on how people can lessen plastic fragments on their washing from getting into the sea.

The scale of the problem is large, with millions of people washing their clothes every week, shedding these particles which are too small to be caught by the machine's filters, flowing into the sewers and eventually into the sea.

The National Federation of Women's Institutes has called on the government and industry to research ways to solve this problem.

Participants taking part were provided with free coffee and a well-earned rest by the team at the Anchor Inn.
