Police are today (10) resuming their search for a missing man after his car was found at a coastal spot in west Dorset.

Kevin Norminton, 43, was last seen on Tuesday morning when he left his home in his silver Ford Focus.

Police say his vehicle has since been located in a West Bay car park, and they are "increasingly concerned" for his welfare.

Lyme Regis, West Bay and Wyke Coastguard rescue teams were joined by the coastguard helictoper, Dorset Search and Rescue, Lyme Regis Lifeboat and Dorset Police in the multi-agency effort which launched on Tuesday.

Kevin, from Crewkerne in Somerset, is described as white, six feet tall, of stocky build and with short grey hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and brown trainers. It is not known what top he was wearing.

Chief Inspector Rob Chalkley, of Dorset Police, said: “We believe Kevin has been very upset recently and we are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare.

"We are focusing our searches for Kevin on the coastline around West Bay, so the public can expect to see a continued police presence in the area today (9).

"Colleagues from the coastguard, NPAS helicopter and volunteers from Dorset Search and Rescue continue to assist the operation, which has been ongoing since yesterday afternoon.

"I urge the public to get in touch with us as soon as possible if you see anyone matching Kevin's description to please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

"I am also appealing directly to Kevin to contact us, your family are very worried and want to know that you are safe and well."

A spokesman for Lyme Regis RNLI said: "Crew were alerted last night (8) following reports of a man missing in the West Bay area.

"The lifeboat was launched at 8.15pm, but after carrying out a shoreline search nothing was found and coastguards stood the crew down."

Further searches were conducted overnight and into the early hours of yesterday morning by coastguards.

Anyone with information or knowledge as to Kevin's whereabouts is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting incident number 8:342.
