Walkers are being urged to lace up their walking shoes ahead of a sponsored walk.

The strollathon for Stepping Out will take place in and around Bridport on Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29.

The 15 mile walk (roughly seven and a half miles each day) has been organised by Roz Copson to raise money for The Living Tree's Stepping Out active rehab programme.

Roz completed the planning of the route and the risk assessment with Rita Bechervaise.

Last year Roz organised a marathon walk over the weekend, but has reduced the length so more people take part.

Roz said: "Last year we raised £2000, and this year I am hoping to raise between £500 and £1000.

"The route is reasonably do-able.

"The walks are meant to be enjoyable and relaxed, not a route march.

"Our pace will be a leisurely ramble, not a race."

On both days the route will start and finish from Bridport Leisure Centre.

The two routes have been divided into five stages with four pick-up points.

Walkers are urged to bring their own water and snacks for the route.

There will be breaks for a light, buffet lunch on both days, which are provided by The New Inn, Shipton Gorge on Saturday, and then Maria's Pantry on Sunday.

A short break has also been organised on Sunday at Symondsbury Kitchens, for walkers to buy refreshments.

The Living Tree has organised for two volunteer drivers to wait at each of the pre-arranged points to collect anyone who wishes to have a lift back to the leisure centre.

This means that walkers can do as little or as much of the walk as they like/can.

Stepping Out is a 12-week rolling programme of twice weekly gentle exercise and educational wellbeing talks for people with a cancer diagnosis who are currently going through or have completed treatment.

The programme runs thanks to a partnership between The Living Tree and Bridport Leisure Centre.
