Urgent road closures were put in place due to a gas leak.
Coombe Street and Bridge Street, through to Church Street, in Lyme Regis were closed overnight.
There was no access to Coombe Street from 4.30pm last night or Bridge Street and Church Street from 7.30pm while gas company SGN looked into the leak.
SGN spokesman Dan Brown said: "We are carrying out emergency work to repair a leak in our gas network in Coombe Street, Lyme Regis. To ensure everyone's safety, we will need to close Coombe Street tonight, from its junction with Bridge Street, near the Lyme Fossil Shop.
"To minimise disruption, we will excavate the road after rush hour to complete the repair and create a temporary road surface overnight so that we can reopen the road on Wednesday morning. A signed diversion will be in place for motorists while Coombe Street is closed.
"We'll need to close Coombe Street again later this week to complete our work and install a permanent road surface. We will provide an update on our progress tomorrow."
The roads have reopened.
