PLANS for 22 houses in Broadwindsor are set to go before councillors today.

Proposals will be discussed at West Dorset District Council’s planning committee.

The development is for new, two-storey homes on Bridport Road, Broadwindsor, and plans are subject to conditions of a S106 agreement.

The application was originally submitted for 32 dwellings, however, in light of the comments and responses received, it was amended and the number of homes reduced. The original proposal was been met with 52 letters of objection and one of support.

The amended plans have received 22 letters of objection and one letter of support.

Issues raised include sustainability, highway safety, ecological issues, housing land supply, surface water drainage, residential development outside the defined development boundary and the effect on the area, which is of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). Concerns include potential loss of countryside views, increase in cars could cause congestion and increased highway safety dangers.

In a report set to go before councillors, the planning inspector states that Broadwindsor is a sustainable location for new development and the site would extend the development boundary. They also advised that ‘every reasonable opportunity’ should be taken to increase short-term housing supply. The meeting takes place at 11am at South Walks House, Dorchester.
