Molly Scott Cato MEP, in typical EU Green Party rant mode last week, alarmist and protectionist – her job – with her protestations about food safety.

Can she produce evidence that Brexiteers are conspiring to weaken standards on food and the environment?

How much evidence does she have that the UK will accept what she calls “lower food standards” on food imported from the USA if there is a trade deal.

The UK has higher standards than the EU bog standard on animal welfare – look at animal transport in the UK and compare it to that in the rest of the EU, so once again what proof is there the UK will lower standards on animal welfare?

As one of the those who voted in the referendum Ms Scott Cato is doing for the EU and the Brussels Mandarins what both sides of the argument did during the run up to the referendum, alarm, confuse and give false information – no wonder we had a problems discerning the truth.

Has she not read and understood that when the UK leaves the EU all the EU regulations concerning standards will be passed into UK law?

I travelled to the USA on a regular basis for over 30 years, I ate dairy produce without falling sick.

Millions of UK citizens have visited the US in the last 30 years, how many have been blighted with food poisoning caused by what she calls “the poor standards of the USA Dairy Industry” and conversely how many USA citizens have there been stricken with food poisoning over the same period in the UK and the EU?

The alarmist claims about danger to the health of the nation based on the possibility of a trade deal some at some time in the future would be better directed at ensuring that it is the Europeans who don’t drop standards when the UK is not there to police lax practices because like it or not we will still be importing dairy products from the EU.
