A labrador-cross has sustained injuries to her head, face and legs after falling from cliffs in west Dorset.

West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team was paged at 12.31pm on Friday (16) to reports that a dog had fallen from the cliffs just to the west of Freshwater Beach Holiday Park.

The Labrador-Cross named Summer was descending the cliff path with her owners when she fell off the edge and onto the beach below sustaining injuries to her head, face and legs.

Six rescue officers from West Bay including the teams station officer and deputy station officer quickly responded to the station, gathered their equipment and rescue vehicle then headed for Freshwater.

On arrival, Summer was found to be at the base of the cliffs being tended to by her worried family.

The Coastguard officers carefully carried her off the beach in a large blanket to a waiting vehicle, which then transported her to a local vets who were waiting for the pending arrival.

A spokesman for the Coastguard said: "When walking your dog on the cliffs, we advises that you always keep you dog on a lead and never attempt to rescue your dog if it becomes trapped on the cliff face or stuck in mud."
