Climbers conquered the three peaks - of Dorset.

Fundraisers trekked across the highest peaks in the county in aid of local charity Diverse Abilities.

The Dorset Big Foot Trek Series saw 11 supporters of the disability charity hike more than 26 miles in 14 hours.

The group headed along the Wessex Ridgeway before climbing Lewesdon Hill and Pilsdon Pen in west Dorset and Bulbarrow Hill, accumulating a combined height of more than 1350m – more than the ascent of Ben Nevis.

By taking part in the challenge, the participants have helped to support and raise funds for children and adults with disabilities in Dorset.

So far, they have raised more than £1,500 and are still counting.

Diverse Abilities provides a range of assistance, support and education services for young people from birth to the age of 19, adults with disabilities, and their families.

The funds raised from the challenge will go towards three 24-hour breaks at the charity’s respite home for a child with incredibly profound disabilities who requires someone to be awake with them 24 hours-a-day.

The breaks are a ‘lifeline’ for parents, giving them respite and a vital night of sleep.

Ashley Weedon, the charity’s fundraising manager, said: “The challenge was not only perfect for those that enjoy walking or love spectacular views, but for those wishing to push boundaries and be taken out of their comfort zone.”

We had a fantastic time along the way and would like to thank all participants for taking part.”

Diverse Abilities will be announcing its next walking challenge as part of the Dorset Big Foot Trek Series in the coming months.
