TV star and winner of the Great British Bake Off Nadiya Hussain came to a Dorset farm to film for her new BBC programme.

Nadiya, who won the TV competition in 2015, went to South West Garlic Farm, based at Higher Chilfrome just outside Maiden Newton, to see how garlic is grown for the Nadiya’s British Food Adventure show.

Farm owner Mark Botwright, who works the farm with his wife Wendy and his son Jack, was thrilled that his farm was chosen for filming.

He said: “It was a real surprise for her to choose us out of all the other thousands of growers and producers in the whole of the country.”

The day’s filming on the farm started off with Mark meeting Nadiya and showing her round the garlic field.

He said: “We started filming out in the garlic field and she was very keen to experience harvesting garlic for herself. So we gave her a fork and she started digging the bulbs out of the ground.”

They then moved onto the polytunnel, where Mark dries and stores all of the garlic once it has been harvested. There Nadiya helped Mark grade the garlic into different sizes and helped him prepare it.

Nadiya was enthralled by the process of growing and processing garlic, according to Mark, as she had never seen it done before.

Mark said: “Then she was very curious to find out about the black garlic which I make.”

They chatted about the garlic and Nadiya tried some and was very impressed by it.

They then went into the farmhouse and the TV star spent the afternoon cooking a yet-to-be-revealed recipe.

During the day, Mark also took her for a ride in his tractor and showed her all around the farm. He said: “She loved the Dorset countryside.”

Mark enjoyed Nadiya’s company and felt “very honoured” that Nadiya came to his farm for the show.

He said: “She is very bubbly and very enthusiastic with everything she does and the new series she has got on.”

Mark added that he was looking forward to seeing his farm broadcast to the nation on TV.

He said: “I feel a bit overwhelmed to have such a lovely profile within the food industry in Dorset and the rest of England now.”

Nadiya’s British Food Adventure is showing on Mondays at 8.30pm on BBC2 and Mark Botwright’s farm will feature in episode seven of the show at the end of August.
