A MAN has been cautioned by police over shoplifting after being “apprehended” by a member of the public in Lyme Regis.

At around 9.30am on Wednesday, police received a call from the Co-op store in Broad Street, Lyme Regis, reporting shoplifters had stolen champagne.

A spokesman for Lyme Regis Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “One man was apprehended by a member of the public further down the road, who was able to keep hold of him until colleagues arrived and give him a lift to Weymouth custody.

“When searched, the 30-year-old man from Croydon was found to have £350 of items from Boots, which were located in his rucksack, along with a bottle of champagne.

“The man admitted two counts of shoplifting and was given a caution. The stolen items were returned to the stores, but it is unsure what kind of day the man was planning with the champagne and hair regrowth cream.”
