A BRIDPORT pub has launched its very own brewery.

The Tiger Inn on Barrack Street, has opened the Stripey Cat Craft Brewery – with a competition held to name the first two beers produced.

Tiger Inn proprietor and landlord, Graham Taylor, brewed two different beers – a light bitter 3.9 per cent and an IPA at 4.2 per cent. Mr Taylor thought that both seemed to hit the spot, with very little left of the brews at closing time.

Mr Taylor said: “We received more than 80 entries and it took Jacqui and I some time to agree the winners.

“The plan is to produce two to three barrels of beer a week and develop beers tailored to our customers’ tastes.

“I am also offering a bespoke bar service. If you are having a special event, I can brew a cask, especially for you and you can name it for the occasion.”

The light bitter was named ‘Feline Good’ by PJ Wheelers, while the winning title of the IPA beer was called ‘Paws for Thought’ by Pete Peachey and Neil Harden.

Each received a £25 voucher to spend at the Tiger and a Stripey Cat Craft Brewery Tee Shirt.

The Stripey Cat Brewery is situated in the former restaurant kitchen at the pub.

Mr Taylor added: “The popularity of real ales continues to grow with the discerning beer drinker now seeking new craft beers.

“It is important for us to keep up with the trends. Brewing our own craft ale seemed a natural progression for us so when the opportunity to purchase a small scale brewery came up we jumped at the chance.”
