HEATHER Rogers from Burton Bradstock has an usual celebration in mind for her 75th birthday - ten hours of knitting.

She is hoping the offer of coffee and biscuits and tea and scones will be enough to lure people into her home to sponsor her 10-hour knitting marathon.

Mrs Roger plans to spend her birthday on Wednesday next week (Feb 22) knitting from 8am to 6pm to help two charities.

The money she makes from her sponsored knit will got to women and girls rescued from trafficking - and the items she knits will go to

I thought it was worth doing. I have done other sponsored things before like wells for Cambodia and mosquito nets I just think it is good to make your birthday count and it is a way of expressing my faith as a Christian.

"I am not the world's best knitter I am quite slow so I am asking people to sponsor me by the hour rather than the item.

"It is for two charities Rope and Barnabus and they are both working with girls who are being rescued from trafficking or who are at risk of going into the sex trade. I am going to split the money two ways.

"I am going ti knit 'Tragedy Teddies' for local hospitals and sailors hats for hte Sailors Society so I am doing a double whammy.

"The actual items will be for charities and the money when it comes in to the two charities and hopefully when it is all over we will all go out for a meal to celebrate my birthday.

"It is good to so something positive not just sit down and open presents and eat chocolate.

"We sponsor two children and one of them is a refugee who was in Syria through Barnabus but they have no means of knowing whether they are dead or alive at the moment which is awful.

"We are concerned about the refugee situation. My husband and I the Rev Ryder Rogers used to be mission workers overseas so we have a bit of an overseas view.

"When my hands hurt a lot I shall swap to sewing because there is a lot of things that have to be sewn together.

"Anybody who wants to come and join in the morning for homemade biscuits and a cup of coffee and in the afternoon for homemade scones and tea is welcome.

"My husband and our daughter Dawn who lives in Portesham and a neighbour are going to be helping serve those because obviously I won;t be doing that.
