FIREFIGHTERS were called to put out a tractor blaze and help contain a fuel leak.

Two crews from Lyme Regis were called to Gore Lane in Uplyme at 10.41am on Thursday.

A spokesman from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, said: “On arrival at the scene, crews confirmed one tractor was well alight and got to work with hose reel jets, a main line and breathing apparatus.

“Crews requested the attendance of an Environment Agency officer as a steam is close by to the location of the incident and the tractor was holding 300 litres of diesel.”

A support appliance from Gillingham was also sent to the scene, as well as the environmental protection unit. Firefighters dug a trench in the field to catch the diesel and prevent it from escaping.

The tractor was destroyed by the fire.
