A WEST Dorset seafront was transformed into a scene from a horror film as ghastly creatures took part in the first ever Lyme Slime fun run.

A total of 146 children and adults tackled the 2km course along Lyme Regis seafront on Saturday (28) - with competitors donning costumes as zombies, ghosts, witches and the odd crazy axe-murderer.

There were no prizes for the fastest runners, which was probably a good thing as along the route, entrants faced various Halloween themed challenges including the cauldrons of gooey Lyme slime at the ‘Witches Brew’ table and the really disgusting newts tongues, maggots, eyeballs and worms at the trick or treat table. All finishers received goodie bags of drinks, sweets and chocolates, donated by Tesco.

Sally Raynes, event director at Lyme Slime organisers Wacky Nation, said: "Despite being the first ever Lyme Slime Halloween festival, the event was a frightening success for everyone involved.

"We were really impressed with the effort everyone went to with their fancy dress and it was great to see everyone having such a great time.”

She added: “We have been thrilled with how many groups in the community have joined with us to ensure this event was so entertaining for all the families involved.

"B! Health and Fitness treated the participants to a fantastic spooky mass warm up which everyone really enjoyed and Lyme Regis Rotary Club stewards offered great encouragement to all the competitors along the route.”

The fun run was the highlight of the day, but there was no dead time for entrants and spectators with spooky fundraising games supplied by Hubs Toddlers and Halloween-themed crafts provided by Cllr Cheryl Reynolds, plus delicious fundraising cakes provided by Lyme Regis Christmas Lights committee to keep everyone dreadfully happy.

Organisers will return for the Lyme Slime Halloween festival in 2017 which aims to be even bigger and a lot scarier.
