RUNNERS will don their spookiest outfits later this month in a Halloween-inspired dash around Lyme Regis.

A new 2km fun run will be held along the Lyme Regis seafront, with participants of all ages and abilities invited to run, jog or walk the course on their own, or with friends and family.

The Halloween Lyme Slime will take place on Saturday, October 29, leaving the Jubilee Pavilion at 11am.

Halloween fancy dress is encouraged by organisers, as up to 250 witches, ghosts, cats and vampires could have a frightfully good time.

For that extra Halloween scare, there will be ‘fright spots’ dotted around the course. Runners can look out for the trick or treat station, indulge in some witches brew if they dare and boogie with the dancing devil, pumpkin or vampire join in the spooky mass warm up.

Although there will be no times or positions for the event, participants wishing to use this course to test their running speed will be able to bypass the games and run fast to record their own finish time.

Event director, Sally Raynes said: “We’re excited to be bringing the Halloween Lyme Slime 2K to Lyme Regis for its inaugural year.

"We wanted to create a new community event for people from Lyme Regis and the surrounding area’s to get into the spirit and celebrate Halloween with family and friends.

“It’s a great opportunity for families to experience running together and to have a fun Halloween experience without any scary nightmares.”

At 12pm on the day, prizes will be given out for the best Halloween costumes. The Hubs' Toddlers will also be available to face paint a pumpkin, bat or spider face for a small fee.

Volunteers have been coming forward to help with the event and both runners and spectators are invited to take part in spooky children’s games and competitions in the Jubilee Pavilion between 11am and 2pm to fundraise for the Lyme Regis Christmas Lights and Hubs Toddlers. There will also be a chance to have a go at classic Halloween games like apple bobbing, doughnut on a string, guess the number of spooky sweets in the jar.

Ms Raynes added: “Everyone is joining in to ensure that this event is a great success, but we can always take on more volunteers to run games or to dress up and be one of our scary stewards.”

If successful it is hoped that the Lyme Slime will expand to host other Halloween themed events over a whole weekend next year to raise money for local charities and organisations
