A DORSET fine art photographer is searching for people born the year the First World War ended for a new project.

Gavin Parsons from Maiden Newton is seeking people all over Dorset who were born in 1918, making them 97 or 98 years-old, for a portrait photography project with a difference.

Gavin said: "I have always been interested in film photographer since I was at college in the 90s - before digital was created. I still love using film and I love the look old cameras give."

For his project he will be using a camera made in 1918.

He added: "When I came across the camera I loved the look of it. So I converted it to take modern 120 film and now I have got used to using it. I always wanted to do a project with it and seeing as it was made the year the First World War ended I thought it would be a good idea to photograph people born that year with a camera made that year."

The camera, a Kodak No.3A Junior, produces authentic early 1900-style pictures that digital photography cannot emulate. Gavin hopes to create an exhibition of the works once the project is completed, so he is looking for people almost 100 years old to get in contact.

Gavin said he is casting his net as wide as possible in the hope to get as many people involved as possible.

He said: "I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the end of the First World War centenary than to photograph people born that year.

“If you, a relative or a friend who, at 97 or 98 would like a free portrait taken, then I would love to hear from you. You can contact me via email or phone to arrange a shoot.
