ROADS will be closed in order for a building to be repaired in Lyme Regis town centre next week.

Broad Street, Church Street and Bridge Street will be closed from Monday until Monday, October 3 for work to take place to the outside of Lyme Bay Dentistry.

The route will be closed in order to create a safe working environment for contractors and due to the materials used to re-render the building.

An alternative route will be signed, allowing traffic to travel along the B3165 Lyme Road, the A35 Charmouth Road and A3052 Charmouth Road. The two car parks at the bottom of Broad Street, managed by West Dorset District Council, will also have no access.

At last week's meeting of Lyme Regis Town Council, Cllr Stan Williams said he believed it was "terrible" that no communication had been received from Dorset County Council.

He said: "What are we going to get from the county (council) on this?

"The traders are very concerned and we have not been told where the buses are going. Are we going to get out a proper leaflet?"

Cllr Daryl Turner said that notice was the responsibly of the contractor Ronald Currie and Lyme Bay Dentistry.

He said: "The closure is because of the materials that have to be used in a conservation area.

"There was proper advice issued three or four weeks ago. I put stuff on my website.

"The actual primary applicant and contractor are responsible for all these issues. There will be a temporary bus stop up by the gardens, as normal."

Deputy mayor, Cllr Michaela Ellis, confirmed that traders and businesses had been sent notices about the work and closure.
