JADE Young is conducting her very own bake off for charity.

Jade Young, 26, who works in the kitchens at Sidney Gale House in Bridport, was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis last year.

It means her diet - and love of baking - have had to adapt to the constraints of a gluten and dairy-free diet but that hasn't stopped her.

She is holding her second fundraising tea party in aid of Crohn's & Colitis UK - such is the quality of her cakes her first made nearly £1,000 and she's hoping to top that with the second event.

The success of the first one means she's chosen the larger venue of St Mary's church house in Bridport for this one on Sunday September 25 from 2m to 4pm.

She is now busily preparing all sorts of cakes for the tea party but especially dairy free and gluten free ones.

She said: "I hope anyone who missed the first tea party can come along and for those who enjoyed it last time it would be great to see you all again supporting a charity that helps many with a condition that effects you on a day- to-day basis."

At worst colitis can see you hospitalised. Jade has been so bad she's had two months off work at a time and in need of intravenous steroids.

She first became unwell after a holiday to Egypt so at first doctors thought it connected to the usual holiday tummy.

But tests proved otherwise.

She said: "I had diarrhoea and lost a stone in three weeks.

"Every day is a different day. I have flare ups and rely on medication.

"The charity does research and helps people. Not everybody has an IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) nurse. I have one I can ring up and they give you help and advice . Not everybody has one so the charity is trying to campaign to get more of them."
