THIS year will be the 68th ShaveCross mini marathon time the event has been held.

But before the main event on Saturday August 6 there are a number of fundraisers beginning with a coffee morning on Sunday (31st July) at Broad Orchard Farm, Shave Cross with cakes, cream teas, plants, produce and a draw.

On Friday August 5 there is a car treasure hunt from 6pm onwards. This is followed by skittles on the field from 8pm with trophies for the winning adult and winning under 16. There will be a licensed bar and barbecue. .

On Saturday August 6 the five-mile run takes place. The run is over fields and roads and entries are taken on the field from 5.45pm with the race itself starting at 7pm.

Following the presentation of the trophies for first, second, third and and first veteran man, first woman, first veteran woman, first under 16 boy, first under 16 girl, and oldest male and female competitors organisers will be presenting a cheque for the proceeds from last year's run to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. There is a prize for the lucky car ticket, also a tombola, prize draw with £100 first prize, a hog roast, skittles and children's sports.

This will be followed by live music from One Night Stand. Everyone is welcome whether they have taken part ion the race or not.

On Sunday August 7 there will be a fun dog show, with a trophy for overall winning dog. Teas will be available.

All these events will take place at Kittys Farm, Shave Cross by kind permission of Fiona Burkman.

Angela Rabbetts, secretary, shave cross mini marathon committee said: "Shave Cross is a very small place of some 10 - 12 houses and we are grateful for all the support we get locally."

All profits from this year's event are being given to Macmillan and other local charities.
