ON the anniversary of the death of 25-year-old Lulu Covey in a car accident on the A37 near Grimstone her parents have been kept going by organising a celebration of her life this weekend.

Mum Glenys Marsh and step dad Dave want her remembered as she was - a loving, bright, exceptional girl who touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

And that's what Lulu's Spice Night will be in Salway Ash village hall this Saturday (July 30).

Tickets have all sold out - with people coming from as far afield as Lincolnshire and Scotland - and there is a waiting list.

It's a dual purpose event - to remember and celebrate Lulu and to raise money for two charities - Brake the road safety charity and The Wormwood Scrubs Horse and Pony Centre, chosen to be the first beneficiary of the Lulu Covey Horse Fund, set up by the Martin and Philippa Clunes and daughter Emily to honour the woman who was their groom for three years.

Glenys said: "It is nice having something a bit positive to focus on.

"People have been amazing. After your story in the paper we even had a box delivered from a company called Wild and Wolf in Bath full of products. It has just been absolutely lovely, people have been really kind. We have had just under 80 raffle prizes donated.

"It makes you feel a little bit humble.

"Everybody is sad but at least we can celebrate - Lou had an amazing life and put so much into her 25 years.

"I wish with all my heart we could have another 50 years but it is what it is and it is heartbreaking and I wish it was me and not not her but Lou would not want us doing anything other than what we are doing.

"I know she would be so proud of us and the way people have rallied."

The Clunes' have offered two walk on parts for Doc Martin for auction and bids are still being accepted for that. They will be announcing the winning bid on the night.

After all the proceeds from the night have been counted the Clunes will be taking Lulu's family to Wormwood Scrubs to present the cheque.

Each year the Clunes will choose a different, horse-related, charity in Lulu's name and Glenys and Dave will support it at what will be an annual event to remember their daughter.
