ST MARY’S School in Bridport had a very spectacular end to the term when it celebrated its silver jubilee.

St Mary’s has been on its Skilling Hill Road site for 25 years and to mark the occasion every class put on a performance for parents, friends, past staff and governors.

Headteacher Helen Farmer said the hall had been packed to see the children and afterwards the temperamental British weather brightened up and everyone was able to enjoy outside activities.

These included archery lessons, a bouncy castle, cream teas, a tombola and all the usual fete attractions.

Mrs Farmer said the emphasis was very much on celebration - not fund raising- and children were given a silver ticket to get a free hot dog and bounce on the bounce castle to their heart’s content without it costing their parents money.

She said: “Despite the rain at the start, the 25th anniversary celebrations went really well. It was lovely to share this special event with so many pupils, parents, staff and governors past and present.

“The school PTA and cooks provided cream teas, hot dogs and burgers. The queue for the bouncy castle went on forever and a number of brave staff members were soaked by sponges as they were put in the stocks. Every child was given a silver ticket as well as a party bag.

“There was fun for all with visits from the fire station, action van, bouncy castle, the entertainer, Strawberry Jam and Julia’s House. We had a memorabilia room which was designed by Mrs Malpas— this was of interest to all, especially past pupils and staff. It was a lovely day and our thanks to everyone who worked hard to make this possible.”
