SEATOWN BEACH, NEAR LYME REGIS
IF the weather holds, take a trip a little further afield to Seatown Beach this weekend.
Seatown itself is a tiny hamlet consisting of a few cottages, a farm, and a pub which lies almost on the beach.
Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast, is just to the west.
Seatown was once a popular spot for fishermen - 150 years ago there were 30 or 40 fishermen here. By night there were smugglers and many a contraband cargo was run in there.
The shelving shingle beach is open to the public and popular with fossil collectors, fishermen and families alike.
