ITS every young artist’s dream – to exhibit work in a London gallery alongside international ‘names’ including the painter Sir Howard Hodgkin, ceramicist Richard Batterham and Oscar-winning film director and artist James Scott.

An 18-year-old from Chedington near Beaminster will achieve that dream when she showcases her art in a special exhibition at Mall Galleries this autumn.

Isobel Soanes is one of 15 teenagers aged 16-18 from Bryanston School taking part in ‘Bryanston Today’, which brings together work from current and former pupils, as well as the staff who teach them.

The school has inspired pupils like Lucian Freud and Sir Terence Conran.

Caroline Chourou, teacher of fine art at Bryanston said: “This show is a chance to catch sight of the Conrans, Hodgkins and Freuds of the future and see their work at the start of their careers.

“We’ll also be showing mature works by some of the famous names who went to the school. It will make for an eclectic and exciting exhibition. The work covers a wide range of styles and media, all chosen for its talent and originality.”

Isobel’s 3D piece features real-life body casts made in ghostly white wax and arranged in a series of stacking boxes.

Isobel said: “It’s quite a gaunt, slightly creepy thing. This piece compresses figures into small spaces, like playing sardines.”

Isobel is taking an art foundation degree courses next year and hopes to develop a career in art.

‘Bryanston Today’ will be the school’s third major London art exhibition and the first at Mall Galleries.

Ms Chourou said: “As with the previous shows, the aim is to enable the Bryanston community to come together to celebrate and share with others the school’s rich, diverse creative history and look to the future by inspiring current and future pupils.

“The exhibition offers a selection of current Bryanston pupils an exceptional opportunity to showcase their work alongside the works of internationally renowned artists in a professional setting. Two hands-on art workshops for prep schools based on the works featured in the exhibition will also be taking place.”
