FUNDING is now the main focus for Bridport Youth Centre.

As reported in the Bridport and Lyme Regis News, Dorset County Council agreed the transfer of the facility to the community and an interim trust is currently applying for charity status.

A meeting of Bridport Town Council’s finance and general purposes committee agreed that the town council will act as the accountable body until the formal constitution of the trust.

Cllr Kevin Clayton, who is one of the councillors behind the project, said the work starts now.

He said: “It’s all very scary as we’ve now actually got to do all the fundraising.

“We’re looking at various areas of fundraising. It’s the fundraising I think that is the real scary bit.”

Applications are now also open for a centre coordinator to allow the centre to continue. to operate.

Cllr Maggie Ray extended her congratulations to the team behind securing the centre.
