YOUNG artists in Weymouth are being encouraged to draw their favourite landmark and have it featured on the side of a National Express coach.

Jenny Urquhart launched the competition earlier this month and will be responsible for judging entries from Weymouth and the south west.

The 'Colour the Coach' competition is designed to showcase people's favourite landmarks up and down the UK on National Express coaches.

Artists in Weymouth and beyond are being asked to draw their favourite local landmark. The best design will be turned into a special one-off landmark livery to go on a National Express coach, with the winner also receiving a £50 cheque.

Jenny Urquhart was recruited by National Express to help launch the competition. She kicked it off by drawing the Clifton Suspension Bridge, her favourite landmark in the region.

She said: "I’m really pleased to launch this fantastic competition and I can’t wait to see all the creativity and original designs produced by local kids. What a great opportunity to proudly watch your design of your favourite landmark rolling across the region on a moving canvas.

"I want kids to put their own original style and stamp on their work so whatever their favourite landmark is, give it your own personal flavour.”

Tom Stables, National Express UK coach managing director T said: "This competition is a great opportunity for mini-Monets in Weymouth to show us their skills and have their masterpiece touring around the country taking pride of place on one of our coaches. We are encouraging all kids to pick up their pens and have a go at Colour the Coach."

The 'Colour the Coach' competition is open to children aged between five and 15 and entrants should draw their favourite local landmark on an A4 sheet of paper using whatever drawing materials they want.

People have until Friday, July 15 to submit their entries. Entries to the competition must be landscape designs on A4 paper and need to be sent to National Express Coach Art Competition, National Express House, Mill Lane, Birmingham, B5 6DD
