DRIVERS on the A35 are set to be hit by a series of night closures as a 50-mile stretch of road is upgraded.

Carriageway repairs and surface treatment works will take place on the A35 and A30 in the coming weeks. The works are taking place from Exeter to Bere Regis.

A letter from SWH/BBIS, the managing agent contractor for the roads, has been sent to residents.

The carriageway repairs will be carried out overnight, and as well as the required work there will be routine maintenance such as sign cleaning, and road sweeping, minimising need for traffic management over the rest of the year.

Works on the A35 from Axminster to Bridport will start on Monday, April 25 from 8pm and will finish on Friday, April 29 at 6am with the road closed overnight while this work takes place. Work will then take place from Tuesday, May 3 from 8pm from Bridport to Dorchester until 6am on Wednesday, May 11. There will be closures from Stinsford to Bere Regis overnight from Wednesday, May 11 at 8pm until Thursday, May 26 at 6am.

Works from Honiton to Axminster started on Monday and will finish on Saturday, April 23.

The letter states: “Where operations are carried out close to properties we will endeavour to undertake as much of any noisy activities before midnight. However work will continue through the night and some disruption may occur throughout the work period.

“For all the road closures a fully signed traffic diversion route will be implemented during the closure period.”

The letter also states that during the closure periods access will be maintained for residents living within the closure but this may only be from one direction depending on the actual location of the works to be undertaken during each shift and may change where the closures are planned for consecutive nights.
