WHO knew keeping you mouth shut could be so profitable - or so difficult?

Certainly not Roz Copson from West Bay who decided to help the cancer self help group The Living Tree by agreeing to a 12-hour sponsored silence.

So one Friday she sat in the Ropemakers for 12 hours and kept entirely mum.

Altogether from donations on the day, and pledges from friends and family, regulars at the Oddfellows pub and West Bay Hotel her total was £675.

Roz said: "I did find it hard in fact it was the hardest thing I have ever done.

"I never thought it would be so difficult."

That doesn't sound surprising as she had 'friends' trying the make her talk and people asking her trick questions.

But she came prepared - she had a two inch thick notepad and used up every page answering those questions.

Roz, who is a keen supporter of the Living Tree, has a brain tumour and although it gives her frequent headaches has been diagnosed as benign.

Even so she is keen to give something back and gladly undertakes various sponsored activities to raise money for good causes.

She added: "I had pieces of A4 paper with wooden sticks on them advertising what I was doing and I used one of the new brown recycling bins to collect the money.

"I also had pictures of the Living Tree so people could see what the money was going towards.

"And the people at The Ropemakers really looked after me well and kept telling people not to try and talk to me.

"I collected £207.50 on the day and by asking around and from friends and neighbours it went up to a total of £675.

"Also I walk a friend's dog and we go to the Oddfellows pub and the regulars there gave £110 .

"I'd like to do something more but there's a limit to what's in people's pockets."
