A HAIRDRESSER from Weymouth will be facing the clippers as she takes on a charity head shave in memory of her friend.

Charlotte Cole, 43, of Wyke Regis, will be having her hair shaved off by Alison Worral of Tahnee’s Hair Studio on Portland Road.

The head shave forms part of a day of entertainment at Wyke Regis Social Club held on Saturday, November 14.

Charlotte said she was inspired to do the head shave to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust after her friend Joy Matthews spent her last days in the charity’s Joseph Weld Hospice.

She added: “I’ve done the midnight walk a few times and Weldmar is a local charity for local people.

“Everyone knows someone who has been cared for in the Joseph Weld Hospice; for me it was my friend Joy who died from cancer in September last year aged 73.

“Weldmar is a cause close to everyone’s heart and I wanted to give something back to the hospice.”

Charlotte, who is self-employed, had a fundraising target of £500 but has already doubled that thanks to generous donations from friends, family and well-wishers.

The day of fundraising includes a vintage tea morning, a homemade cake sale, a table top and clothes sale which all take place from 10am until noon.

In the evening, there will be a quiz at 8pm, Charlotte’s charity head shave at 9pm and a raffle at 9.30pm.

Charlotte added: “Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and all the businesses who have given prizes for the raffle.

“Although the fundraiser is being held at the Wyke Regis Social Club you do not need to be a member to come along on the day.

“I would encourage anyone interested to come along, have a browse and have some fun in our quiz or raffle.”

Raffle prizes include a gold ring from Gladstones Jewellers, a carvery for two, two month gym membership or two night stay at a hotel in Exeter thanks to the Rembrandt Hotel, a hair voucher from Illusionz hair salon, a double jet ski ride, Cineworld cinema tickets and more.

Charlotte said that a party to celebrate Joy’s life, arranged at Joy’s request before she died, will take place at the social club on November 28 and anyone who knew Joy is invited to come along.

Weldmar Hospicecare Trust cares for patients with cancer and other progressive conditions, who require specialist help.

The charity needs to raise £10,000 per day to fund their free of charge services through fundraising and their chain of nineteen charity shops and four outlets.
