WEYMOUTH 6 CHICHESTER III 0

IN THEIR opening game of the 2015/16 season, Weymouth thumped Chichester, a side that had recently been demoted out of Regional Division Two.

The Seasiders were looking to improve on their fourth-place finish the season before and were quick out of the blocks against the newly-promoted side.

Simon Harvey opened the scoring reacting quicker than anyone else after a Patrick May drag-flick had been saved well by the goalkeeper.

Harvey calmly swept the ball past the keeper to put the home side in the lead.

The next goal came from great work between Luke Drewitt and Andy Stiles when the two executed a fluid move which finished with Drewitt scoring with a one-touch shot.

Weymouth were now in the ascendancy and May was a constant menace working well on the left-hand side of the attack.

Stiles went from provider to finisher when he pounced on a save from a Matthew Underhill reverse stick shot to make it 3-0 going into half-time.

At the start of the second half, Weymouth were looking to finish the game off early however, Chichester had other ideas and, if it wasn’t for the good work of defender Roland Gill and goalkeeper David Civil, they would have got their goal.

Ten minutes into the second half the home side finally got out of first gear and began to create chances again with debutant Craig David justifying his selection with some cute play.

Drewitt soon scored his second of the day and Weymouth’s fourth when he was found at the back post by newly-appointed captain Steven Membury.

By then the visitors had given up any chance of a comeback and went further behind when great pressure from Drewitt and Stiles was rewarded with turning over possession high up the pitch.

Stiles then found May who blasted his shot past the helpless keeper.

The scoring was then rounded off by Membury who stepped up to the penalty spot after Stiles had been fouled when through on goal.

Membury confidently despatched the flick, leaving the keeper with no chance.

Weymouth’s next fixture is away to Salisbury with the team looking to build on a good opening performance.
