SIR John Colfox Academy and Beaminster School celebrated the best A-Level results for ‘some years’.

The schools’ joint sixth forms celebrated a 99% pass rate for A2 results as well as a 50% A* to B pass rate and a 75% rate for A* to C.

Students streamed to the schools to find out how they had done and what universities they would be heading off to next year.

Staff at the schools were delighted with the results.

Headteacher at Sir John Colfox, Kay Taylor said: “We’re delighted. It’s the best A an A* set of results we’ve ever had.

“We’re really pleased. They’ve all worked hard and the A2 results are the best Colfox has had for some years.

“They’re going to look so strong nationally too.

“It was exactly what we were predicting.”

Headteacher at Beaminster Keith Hales, joined her praising the students.

He said: “At a time of great change in education it is essential that schools continue to provide the stability and direction that students require.  The number of high grades will ensure that students have a passport to the best Universities and the quality of all the results has meant that our students are able to progress onto their chosen careers.”

Students were celebrating heading off to universities including Exeter, Southampton, Bournemouth and Bristol.

Grace Crabtree and Oli Woodcock both achieved three A* grades as just two of the exceptional acheivers. 

At Sir John Colfox, Billy Jones achieved an A* in Biology, an A in Chemistry and a B in History.

This was after he ‘messed up’ in his first year but hard work means he is now considering going through clearing or taking a year out.

He said: “I wasn’t expecting that.

“It was quite a comeback because I messed up last year. I’ve been revising for four hours a night since Christmas.

“I have no idea what I want to do now.”

Other students did know where they were going and there were plenty of smiles and tears as they celebrated.

Amy Van Zyl, is off to Bristol University to study English Literature after achieving An A* two As and a B.

She said: “I thought I’d just scraped in.

 “I just wasn’t expecting it. I’m really surprised, it doesn’t feel real at all.”

Other students celebrating included Sophie Cole who got an A* and two Bs and will now study Sociology at Exeter University and Lottie Willmore who will be studying Art Foundation at Arts Univesity Bournemouth after she achieved an A*, a B and a C.

Jason Larcombe is also off to study at Arts University Bournemouth after achieving an A*, C and  a B.

Other impressive results include Jack Hansford and Callum Pattinson both getting an A* and two As while Anja Jackson and Joe Pitfield both earned themselves 3 As.

 

One particularly impressive set of results saw art students at Sir John Colfox all achieve an A* grade.
