Division Two

ROYAL EXCHANGE 37 CAFÉ OASIS 27

ROYAL Exchange took the honours in a contest that was played in great spirit.

An enthusiastic start by both teams saw the whole court used well.

Café Oasis’ Beth McSevney and Jane Snarey worked well together, moving the ball swiftly through the court.

Despite Royal Exchange playing well this first quarter and scoring some impressive goals, strong pressure from Café Oasis’ defence saw them six goals down.

Royal Exchange came out fighting in the second quarter with Catherine Simmons and Abi Simmons working their space well and netting 13 goals between the pair of them, giving their team the edge.

Oasis, keen to get the game back, seemed to be rushing play and, due to pressure from Royal, made some silly mistakes.

Eleanor Lake, though, scored some flawless goals to bring her team back into the game.

The final quarter saw both teams fighting for control over this fast-paced game and to tilt it in their favour.

Great interceptions by Gilly Woodsford saw her deny Café Oasis plenty of shots and converted play in her team’s favour – so it was the Exchange that claimed the points.

AUTOBITZ 28 BUILDRITE 27

BUILDRITE started this game the stronger of the two teams but Autobitz had the final say after winning by just a point.

Buildrite’s Jenny Ayles and Alice Hambleton-White controlled the court well, making their important passes into their shooters count.

It seemed as if Autobitz struggled to keep up with the fast pace of Buildrite — however, some key interceptions by Becky Cousens and Kirsty Hill kept them in the game, and, when they managed to feed the ball into the shooting circle, Becky Hallet could not miss.

This helped them close the gap to two goals.

Both teams played a very similar game in the third quarter and something needed to change for one team to take control, as it was a goal-for-goal quarter and all equal.

Both teams came out fighting in the final period but Autobitz were in a higher gear.

Strong, accurate passes into the shooters gave Bitz the advantage, despite Buildrite working tirelessly to stop them.
