A PARAGLIDER has been airlifted to hospital after crashing in west Dorset.

Emergency services were called to Eype this afternoon and a man was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by the Devon Air Ambulance.

A spokesperson for the South West Ambulance Service, said: “We were called to the scene at 2.34pm to reports a paraglider had crashed.

“There was one male casualty who had rib, hip and shoulder injuries. He was taken to Southmead Hospital by air ambulance for treatment.”

An eye-witness saw the paraglider flying over the area shortly before the incident.

Neil Barnes, said: “I was just in West Bay and I saw him flying above.

“He was on top of the cliffs over the eastern path. I didn’t think it was particularly windy in all honesty.

“I see them up there quite often, but he looked fairly comfortable.”
