A DRINK DRIVER was disqualified after she drove her car into a Lyme Regis house.

Lisa Smith, 46, from Lyme Regis, plead guilty to driving while over the legal limit for alcohol in a hearing at Weymouth magistrates court on May 13.

A statement read out in court said on the afternoon of April 22 the defendant drank two medium-sized glasses of wine at her house and then drove her Toyota Yaris to the Nags Head Inn on Silver Street.

The court heard the defendant stopped at the Inn and had another glass of wine and a 'strong' cider, but she told police she had no recollection of getting into the car.

The defendant later drove her car into the side of a house in Pound Street in Lyme Regis, causing minor damage, before it spun around and came to a stop.

The court was told that when questioned by a police officer at the roadside, he could smell alcohol on the defendant's breath, and she initially said an old couple were driving behind her and then she 'just spun'.

Out of two breath tests - one at the roadside and one in a police station - the defendant was found to have 96 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Mitigating, Lee Christmas said the defendant was an alcoholic and had been drinking to cope with being in an abusive relationship.

Mr Christmas said: "She is not sure when she will be able to drive again but knows she had to deal with her alcohol addiction first."

He added the defendant plead guilty at the earliest opportunity, had been driving for more than 12 years and never had any endorsements.

The defendant was disqualified from driving for 23 months, with the option to reduce this sentence by attending a drink driving rehabilitation course.

She was also ordered to pay £380 in fines and court costs.
