DORCHESTER’S Avenue Stadium today plays host to Portland Town’s end-of-season Finals Day.

Kicking off at 6.15pm is the final of the Inter-Club Cup, which is followed by the showpiece event, the Billiardsboutique.com final.

Both games will be open to the public and entry is £5 for adults and £1 for children, with a percentage of the takings going to the British Heart Foundation.

On Sunday, Grove Corner is the venue for the Dave Price memorial match – this starts at 11am and everyone is welcome.

Entry will be by way of donations on the gate and all proceeds will go to Dave’s two young daughters, Abbie and Sophie. More than 60 players are set to take part across three games.

Meanwhile, Weymouth Cougars invited Portland Town to take part in a charity game at the weekend to garner funding for both the Cougars and their campaign to raise awareness of disability.

The islanders ran out 15-3 winners with Alex Counter bagging seven goals to break another Town record for most goals in one game.

Cougars’ captain Liam Thorne bagged a brace for his side, who were certainly a match for their opponents for long periods, especially the second half.

The game was played in great spirits at the Bob Lucas Stadium, by kind permission of Weymouth FC, and both teams agreed to a rematch next year.

Cougars’ manager Nigel Thorne said: “It was a fantastic day and I want to thank Portland for stepping in.

“I’m proud of my players, they put up a real fight.

“We are not used to 11-a-side football as we normally play seven versus seven, but we coped with a quality Portland Town team very well.

Town’s Andy Barber added: “Both teams can be proud of the way they played. It was a bit of fun and no-one cares about the scoreline at all.

“If Cougars want to invite us back next year we would only be too happy to be part of it again.”

Town donated £75 to the cause.
