SIR TERRY Wogan enjoyed a spot of garlic with his lunch when he stopped off in West Dorset.

The veteran broadcaster and possessor of one of the most recognisable voices in TV and radio stopped in on the South West Garlic Farm in North Chideock earlier today as he continued his foodie journey around the area.

He joined owner Mark Botwright and celebrity chef Mat Follas for the morning to learn about the different types of Dorset garlic- from elephant garlic and Iberian garlic to morado garlic, violet spring garlic and music garlic, a new variety for 2015.

Sir Terry has been in Dorset for a few days now exploring the local cuisine for his new BBC TV series about regional food. He was spotted in Dorchester on Monday, before lending his signature voice to the ‘stand clear of the barrier’ announcement on Weymouth’s Town Bridge yesterday.

Mr Botwright said they had talked about how well their garlic was growing this season, before they showed Sir Terry the garlic from last season drying out in the poly tunnels.

He said Sir Terry was impressed with what they had been doing.

He said: “He thought it was amazing that someone was actually growing garlic. It’s more associated with the climate in Europe.”

Masterchef winner Mat Follas cooked up a delicious dish for Sir Terry of slow-roasted leg of lamb with a black garlic glaze, new potatoes and florets of cauliflower.

Mr Botwright said he had been a little nervous before meeting the TV legend.

He said: “He was a really lovely gentleman- very nice.

“It was a very big pleasure to meet him.”
