ENGLAND manager Roy Hodgson took some down time in the lead up to Friday night's Euro 2016 qualifier for a spot of R and R and Sunday lunch at The Riverside Restaurant in West Bay.

Staff at the award-winning fish eaterie were excited to see Roy and his wife tucking in - no one more so than football mad trainee manager Daniel Chilcott, whose father Neil is the chef.

Neil said: "Daniel was like a chicken with two heads he was so excited."

Former Colfox boy Daniel, 26, said Roy was a very nice man.

He said: "He was a very nice man, very polite, we talked about football. I am a fan through and through, but everybody's an England fan aren't they?

"It was a bit of a surprise to see someone of his nature in a small sleepy seaside town like West Bay."

Riverside proprietor Arthur Watson said it was lovely to see the football manager but remained secretive about his menu selection.

He said: "It was very simple. Let's just say he wasn't dining out on lobsters."

Mr Watson said he thought the England manager was exploring Dorset on the recommendation of his plumber who comes from Bridport.
