A TREASURED youth space opened its doors to celebrate achievements over the past three years.

The Hub in Lyme Regis held the event on Saturday - showcasing what the centre has to offer for young people in the town.

After the old boys club building was put up for auction, the Lyme Regis Development Trust, with help from Dorset County Council, stepped in to save the space - with the aim of bringing the building back into use.

Extensive building work has taken place, including replacing the roof - and it has become established as a key part of the Lyme Regis community.

Diane Earle, manager at The Hub said: "The idea was to showcase The Hub and all it has to offer the local community. With all the building work that has gone on, we wanted to show off all the wonderful groups and activities hat are held here.

"The Hub is well supported in Lyme Regis. But we do need to make it as sustainable as possible as in the long run, it needs to be viable on its own - without relying on so many generous donations.

"We had 140 people turn up here on Saturday, which shows it is really important to the community. We have some really popular youth drop-in sessions where youngsters can get support and advice on a range of things or just hang out. We organise a lot of activities and events, so there really is a lot on offer at The Hub."

The open day started bright and early when Lyme Regis Gig Club used the space for their indoor training. Lyme Regis Majorettes performed a fantastic mini display and gave people a try out at baton twirling. The skate ramps were unsurprisingly popular, along with the games corner.

B Sharp music group also performed a music taster session, squeezing as many youngsters as possible into The Hub - while Tae Kwon-Do, drama workshops from the Helen O'Grady Dance Academy and performances form the Dorset Youth Team also took place.

"A lot of people seemed to really enjoy the skate ramps, and Lyme Regis Football Club U8s were having lots of fun popping balloons" added Diane.

"It really was excellent to see so many people there supporting us. The Hub felt alive with so many different people getting involved. It's amazing after all the building work, to now be in such a strong position. It was a complete wreck, but we've managed to get a new roof and it really looks as good as it should."
