WYKE M moved into third place in Weymouth & District League Division One after a 24-14 home win over YMCA.

David Avenell was the star of the show for Wyke with a flawless display in his singles matches.

He ended up earning a full house of nine points for his team.

John Ryan also contributed nine points with Robin Prince supplying the other six.

Two of Ryan’s wins were over the full five sets and he was pushed all the way by both Ken Brake and John Cox.

Red Triangle closed the gap on Colliton X after beating them 25-11.

A dominant performance from the hosts saw them win the first four matches before Raj Lehal got Colliton’s first success with victory over Andy Mitchell.

Derek Dawson and Tony Reed got the islanders back on track before Mitchell lost again, this time to Mick Hogan, but it was too little, too late for them.

Pilgrims A’s cup form continues to desert them and they are still looking for a first league win.

Shipton Gorge A were their conquerors this week, running out 23-16 winners.

This tie was nip and tuck with both teams winning five of the 10 matches.

It was Shipton’s ability to win theirs for the loss of fewer sets that made the difference on the night.

Pilgrims’ Richard Willshere actually top scored individually on the night, winning all three of his singles matches.

Budmouth B made it 12 out of 12 with a comfortable 28-5 victory at Springfield B, although the hosts did only have two players.

Ben Graham kept up his 100 per cent winning record and Brad Burroughs also scored maximum points.

Springfield secured their only triumph when Chris Whitefield overcame Graham’s father, Daren.

Budmouth C had an equally comfortable night against Preston C, recording a 29-4 success at the school.

Jamie Blair and Moses Lewis both scored maximums with Blair not dropping a set.

Dave Clegg put up a great fight in the penultimate singles match, coming from 2-1 down to beat James Green 3-2 and score Preston’s solitary win of the evening.

Shipton Gorge B registered maximum points against Colliton C to secure a 30-11 success.

The match was closer than the score suggests with seven of the 10 legs going to four or five sets.

In a tight local derby, Preston B maintained their slender advantage in the league over Preston A with a 24-16 victory in the match between the two.

Josh Harman put in a solid display and won all his singles matches for the B team, ably supported by Ros Page and Peter Stopforth.

All the A team members won a match but they couldn’t stop their close rivals running out winners.

With the top three in Division Three not playing, Shipton Gorge C had the opportunity to close the gap at the summit.

They duly obliged by earning a 22-12 win over Preston D.

Dan Corren led from the front for Shipton with nine points, though Stan Smith did threaten to spoil the party.

But Corren won the final singles of the night and partnered Dave Poole to victory in the doubles to secure the win.

Pilgrims B visited Budmouth to play the E team girls, and they went home happy following a 26-10 success.

The experience of Brian Hawker, Richard Ellerby and Alec Bailey saw them home but Snigdha Maganti beat both Ellerby and Bailey.

The match against Bailey was an epic with Maganti coming from two sets down to secure victory.

Despite scoring maximum points in his singles matches, Roy Sharp was unable to stop Wyke C from losing to Dorset Youth B by a 21-13 scoreline.

This was a tight one that could have gone either way until the final singles match when Mick Hogben defeated John Southway to seal it for Dorset Youth B.
