ON a remarkably sunny Saturday morning, after the recent battering from storm force winds, the driver of a 1969-registered Triumph Vitesse was outside St John’s Church at lunchtime.

The Vitesse had a compact six- cylinder engine and was built between May, 1962 and July, 191.

This one is believed to be a mark II and was one of 3,472 built.

Later that same afternoon I followed a pre-1963 Wolseley 1500 along the Burton Road.

That car was certainly in first class condition, although I did wonder about the tow bar fitted to the rear bumper. On Sunday afternoon the Allington Strings performed a concert in St John’s Church that included works by Bach, Elgar, Mozart, Grainger, Corelli and Gershwin.

A good audience listened attentively to the programme that was dedicated to the memory of Jim Frew who died a year ago from Motor Neurone Disease.

Jim had been a loyal and enthusiastic member of the orchestra. With the leader Barbara Dale, the orchestra was conducted by their guest conductor for this term, Ronald Easey.

Courtesy of the landlords of the West Bay Hotel, Tess and Sam Good, the local branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution will be holding its annual Christmas carols and song from 7pm on Sunday, December 21.

As well as being festive fun for all, there will be light refreshments and a Christmas raffle.

Supporters are asked to arrive early to be sure of a seat.

The following night, Monday the 22nd, there will be carol signing in the George from 7.30pm to which everyone is welcome.

At St John’s Church on Christmas Eve there will be a crib service at 4pm, while on Christmas Day the service of Holy Communion will be at 11.15am.

A warm welcome awaits you at these services.

On Boxing Day ‘after the swim’ an informal service to include carols, cake and coffee will be hosted by Churches Together in Bridport and District in St John’s.

Come in to warm up and enjoy the celebration.

Don’t worry about what to wear, just come as you are.
