Nothing is likely to get you in the Christmas spirit more than the town’s annual Live Nativity this weekend.

And the event is made even more exciting this year with a special carol written to introduce the whole event, entitled ‘O market town of Bridport on the Jurassic Coast’.

In a tradition that dates back around seven years, Bridport Churches Together’s Christmas re-enactment is a mixture of the traditional story of the birth of Jesus, mixed with a modern take on the narrative, courtesy of ‘star’ Johnny Broome and his youthful Magi and ‘shoppers’ discussing the event.

The nativity is organised by a committee from Churches Together, led by chairman the Rev Philip Ringer.

Mr Ringer said: “Churches Together in Bridport and District are praying for fine weather for the Bridport Nativity this year.

“Unfortunately last year, the nativity had to be re-located to St Mary’s Church.

“I would invite anyone interested to come and see a live outdoor nativity, with Mary and Joseph arriving from the west with a donkey, the Magi from the east and the shepherds from the south.

“This event will be suitable for all ages too, so come and sing the special carol introducing the event.

“Everyone is warmly welcome to take some time out of the hustle and bustle of Christmas to engage with the true meaning of the rapidly approaching festival.”

This year, weather permitting, the presentation will take place on Saturday, December 20 at 11am in Bucky Doo Square.

But in the event of wet weather it will instead be held in St Mary’s Church in South Street from 11.15am.

Organisers also say the live outdoor nativity brings the true message of Christmas to the streets of Bridport.

Last year, Charlie Dewhurst-Pape agreed to take part in Bridport’s annual live nativity, playing Mary.

Husband Jinder played Joseph and baby Winter played Jesus.
