LYME REGIS: Town councillors have requested detailed plans from a museum before the authority gives permission to use its car park as part of a redevelopment plan.

The museum wants to construct a ramp and retain the use of three car parking spaces on land owned by the council – as well as to store building materials in the Guildhall car park.

But members of the council’s management committee were unable to back the plans without the museum addressing problems over access and whether or not there is enough space to create the parking spaces.

Cllr Anita Williams said: “I do not want to be in a position where we find ourselves land-locked because visitors or delivery vehicles causing any more of an obstruction.”

“I want to see some of the details ironed out. We have also discussed previously that any lease of land should be at market value so we will need to look at that.”

David Tucker, director of Lyme Regis Museum said: “It’s not something that would prevent us from carrying out the development – but it would make things a lot easier and also save some money.

“We’re very grateful to the town council that they are considering our request. Hopefully we can move forward to something that works for everyone.”
