BAKERS young and old put on their aprons to take part in the second annual Great Broadwey Bake Off.

Dozens of aspiring bakers took best their entries to Broadwey Village Stores on Dorchester Road hoping to be crowned winner of one of three categories.

The event, inspired by the popular television series, was all in aid of a good cause – entry fees, donations and proceeds from a raffle will be given to the Alzheimer’s Society.

The competition was judged by ‘Broadwey’s very own Mary Berry’, Stella Knight, and last year’s winner Samantha Spracklen.

Organiser Janet Blakey, who runs Broadwey Village Stores with husband Peter, said: “The raffle alone raised £145 and with money still coming in the total raised so far is £484.

“We are really pleased with this amount. We just wanted it to be something fun the community could get involved in at the same time as raising money for a good cause.

“Off the back of the Great British Bake Off I think people are really getting back into baking and cake decorating. We had some fantastic entries. Everyone did really well.”

Mrs Blakey added: “We had a lot of raffle prizes donated, so I’d like to say thank you to everyone who helped and took part.”

The charity was chosen because Peter’s parents both suffered from dementia and the couple felt it is a condition which affects a lot of people and their families.
