Pupils and staff at Bridport Primary School enjoyed a week of book-related fun, which included a visit from story-teller Tessa Bide.

The younger pupils of the school thoroughly enjoyed the songs, acting, puppetry and interactive nature of ‘Arnold’s Big Adventure’ – a story about an acorn on a very long journey.

Sophie Cooper, English leader for the school, said: “It was a wonderfully interactive show which left our younger pupils enthused and animated about storytelling.”

The week kicked off with dress-up day, where everyone dressed as their favourite book character or represented places across the world.

The year’s theme was ‘Around The World’, with each year group focusing on a different continent.

This led to some very imaginative costumes, with the overall prize going to Damian in Year 6 whose mum designed his Rio de Janeiro carnival costume.

Trips to Bridport Library and Waterstones followed, and Wednesday night was pyjama party night. Children returned after normal school hours in their PJs to enjoy stories, hot chocolate and biscuits with staff.

The week concluded with a visit from children’s author David Lawrence Jones, who shared his childhood experiences with reading and writing and introduced his books.
