LYME REGIS: Youth music project B Sharp has received a helping hand from the Lyme Regis Society with a donation of £200.

The news comes after B Sharp appealed to the town council for financial help last month, where it was revealed the charity would not be able to continue one of their main projects without aid.

Lyme Regis Society chairman Chris Savory said: “When we heard that B Sharp had a funding gap over the coming six months, we thought we had to help.

“The group is so vibrant and fast becoming part of Lyme’s culture. It is a pleasure to be associated with them.”

B Sharp has worked with thousands of young musicians since 2007, running regular music-making sessions, projects and events as well as offering training and professional development.

But in a presentation before town councillors at a strategy and policy meeting in September, representatives from B Sharp said the charity has enough funding to continue their work in The Hub for the next six months, but would ‘have to stop the project’ in December if the remaining funding for the following six months is not found.

Councillors were told that a six- month programme at The Hub costs £16,000 in total, but the charity needs a further £6,000 from the council to keep The Hub project going after December.

B Sharp director Fran Williams told councillors of the fundraising the charity undertakes, but described the balance between keeping fundraising events affordable and getting any income as a ‘constant struggle’.

After the cheque presentation from the society, B Sharp treasurer Polly Benfield told The News: “We feel very much part of the community here in Lyme Regis so it’s very encouraging to have our work recognised by a local organisation.

“We want to say a big thank you to the society from all of our members.”
