TWO brothers have undertaken a mammoth coastal hike to raise money for a Dorset hospice.

Craig and Dean Murray and friends walked almost 50 miles along the Dorset coast in aid of the Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester.

Their mum, Kim White, died aged 53 at the Herringston Road hospice on September 11 after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Craig, who lives in Dorchester, said: “She got on so well with all the staff there, who were so kind to her. We just wanted to give something back to say thank you. They rely so much on donations and it seemed like an important thing to do.”

The group started their trek at Swanage Pier and walked along the coastal path to Osmington Mills where they camped for the night.

The following day they walked to Dorchester via Weymouth, Portesham and Hardy’s Monument, ending their 47-mile hike at the hospice.

Craig said: “The original idea was to walk from Lyme Regis to Weymouth, but it would have meant camping on Chesil Beach. We changed the route and I really think it takes in the best parts of Dorset, like Lulworth Cove and the Durdle Door.”

Craig added: “My brother works with Reading police and he had a friend and colleague who were keen to get involved. When we first started talking about it our friends wanted to help, and it’s really nice to have that support.”

The group has raised around £2,000 already but they are hoping to hit their target of £3,000.
