LYME REGIS: A schoolgirl singing sensation has vowed to be better than ever this year as she performs at the OpenMic UK regional finals.

At just 13 years old, Woodroffe school student Annabel Davies scooped first prize at the finals of Dorset’s Got Talent in March this year with her rendition of Titanium by David Guetta.

The event was supporting Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Annabel, from Lyme Regis, is no stranger to the stage and recently performed at events like B Sharp’s Big Mix and Guitars on the Beach – and made the finals of the Open Mic contest in Birmingham last year.

Annabel attends a theatre school and wants to become a professional singer.

For the OpenMic UK national finals held in Bristol this weekend, October 4, Annabel is teaming up with pianist Toby Tilsted, from Dorchester, and hopes that having a live musician to accompany her rather than a recorded backing track will give her a boost compared to other contestants.

Annabel’s mother Sue told The News: “Toby is a talented pianist, who would love to get a band together. It looks as though a great partnership may be possible here.

“Annabel is an ambitious singer with a wonderful talent. She hasn’t let last year’s open mic competition result stop her; she’s hoping to carry on bigger and better.”

The talented teenager started singing in primary school and since then has sought out any opportunity to perform.

Sue added: “Annabel first found a big audience when we were on holiday at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park and won the talent show at just 10 years old.

“She was given the chance to sing in front of a packed entertainment complex, and loved this so much she sang in front of the whole school when she started at Woodroffe.

“Also, organiser of Guitars on the Beach, Geoff Baker, spotted her at the Big Mix and arranged for her to be one of the main stage acts this year.”
