TWO enterprising teenagers are holding a fundraising evening to help pay for a ‘once in a lifetime’ trip to India.

Kieran Westlake and Oscar Hickman, both 15, are among a number of students at All Saints School taking part in the World Challenge programme.

The project involves trekking through the Himalayan area and helping to renovate a local school and village facilities.

But faced with having to raise more than £2,000 each for the trip, friends Oscar and Kieran decided to organise a quiz night at the Balti House.

The event will include a raffle and the friends wanted to thank the many local businesses who have donated prizes.

Kieran said: “The event is happening on December 3 but we wanted to try and sell as many tickets as possible now as we have mock exams later in the term.”

The youngsters, who both live in Wyke Regis, are in Year 11 and will be taking their GCSEs next summer.

Kieran added: “We need to raise the money by July next year and we didn’t just want to rely on our parents. We wanted to do it all ourselves.

“We are extremely lucky to be able to take part in something like this, it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’ve always been interested in India and that part of the world and with us being able to help local schools and villages it seemed like something not to miss out on.”

The friends are also hopeful the trip will benefit them in years to come.

Kieran said: “It is something that will help with our university applications and will help make us stand out on our CVs. It’s a bit different to doing something like Duke of Edinburgh.”

He added: “We would like to say thank you to the businesses who have donated raffle prizes.

“They have been very generous.”

The event includes a quiz and a meal at the Balti House on December 3 and tickets cost £15 per person.

The winning quiz team will get a cash prize.
