LYME REGIS: A health and care watchdog has found that a care home in the town has taken swift action to make important improvements.

Fairfield House, located on Charmouth Road, is celebrating after an improvement in its record keeping system was praised by the Care Quality Commission following an unannounced visit by inspectors back in March.

The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of health and social care in England which ensures that care meets government standards of quality and safety.

Fairfield House offers residential care for up to 36 people with care needs – and the recent inspection was to identify whether the home had met the essential standard for patient records.

An inspection back in November last year found that daily care records had not always been completed accurately, and did not demonstrate that people’s care needs had been met.

But during the most recent inspection, the CQC found that a new recording system, ensuring people’s individual care needs were accurately recorded, had been implemented by the registered manager.

The report said: “The home wrote to us on December 3 last year and told us how they would achieve compliance with their records.

“In our March inspection this year, action had been taken to increase staff awareness of the requirement of accurate record keeping.

“Since our last inspection all staff in the home had undertaken training in the importance of accurate record keeping with the provider's external training provider.

“In addition to this, the monitoring of staff recording and record maintenance had been discussed with senior staff during supervisions.

“Appropriate systems had been implemented to record people's care needs.”

Eytan Krips, owner of Fairfield House said that the home has achieved ‘compliant status’ meaning the home’s services meet essential standards of quality and safety.

He added: “At the most recent inspection, the inspector looked at several areas and found the service at Fairfield House to be a caring, safe, effective, responsive and well led home.

“We are very proud of the team at Fairfield House, they work consistently hard to meet and raise the standards of care for our residents.

“They are passionate about what they do and this is evident in this report; carers put residents at the heart of everything they do.

“We aim to provide resident-led care focusing on the needs of our residents and their families.”
