THE ‘Chideock in the Wars’ event was so well attended that we had to hastily put out more chairs for people to watch the power point presentation and the play The Chideock Egg Lady, writes Chideock correspondent Lyn Crisp.

Many thanks must go to all who made the exhibition and commemoration such a success, namely, John Forsey, Robyn and Eve Symes, Raymond Jerrard, The Chideock Society, The Chideock Players, St Giles Bellringers, The Chideock Trust and my fellow committee members Frances Colville and Colin Foot.

I am told many found the Remembrance very moving with the names of all those commemorated on the War Memorial being read out while the bellringers ‘rang a peal’ in their honour. The wartime tea was a great success and many enjoyed the Anzac biscuits and Trench cake.

I was very honoured to have been part of this tribute and all the research will shortly be available on the community website chideockandseatown.co.uk A total of £215.50 was raised for the Help for Heroes charity.

The joint venture of Sunday afternoon tea in the Roman Catholic Church Museum between the two village churches was a great success with more than £600 being raised.

This was a beautiful and peaceful place to spend a Sunday afternoon and many will miss this Sunday treat.

The autumn term of the Bopper Bus starts this Friday September 19. If your child is eight years or older and would like to become a member please contact Sarah Silcox on 01297 489905 or Lyn Crisp on 489098.

The Bopper Bus is now in its eleventh year. We collect children from Chideock and surrounding villages on a Friday evening and take them to the Bridport Leisure Centre where they have a sports activity followed by swimming. They are then returned to their villages.

All our volunteers are CRB checked and have first aid and child protection training. We are always looking for volunteers to accompany the children so if you are interested either contact Sarah or myself.

I know it is early and everyone will groan when I mention Christmas but two dates for your diary are The Weldmar coffee morning on Thursday October 30 in the village hall when Weldmar Xmas Cards will be on sale and on November 8 a Xmas Fayre is being arranged offering unique presents and crafts.
